In parallel to the experimental projects produced for 18%Gray, the students in the 2007/2008 GFRY studio (run by Helen Maria Nugent and Douglas Pancoast) worked in teams to develop 4 new luminaires in a unique collaboration with the Milan based design manufacturer Industreal. The projects focused on the intersection of old and new technologies, namely, Light Emitting Diodes (LED’s) and hand blown glass. The four final prototypes were exhibited at Fabbrica del Vapore in Milan during the FuoriSalone 2008.

The wonderful student team included: Shireen Bishop, Robyn Carter, So Jung Lee, Caroline Linder, Michael Riha, Eric Rosenbaum, Blair Schmidt, Sonia Shim, Lisa Smith, Greta Stepp and Zach Weiss.

The collaboration was beautifully documented in a print publication, Let there be light', designed, published and distributed by Industreal.
